QUI TAM AND WHISTLEBLOWER
“Qui Tam,” or false claim laws, apply to situations wherein a citizen, believing that the state or federal government is being cheated by a company, person, or entity, steps in to protect that government. Otherwise known as “whistleblower” statutes, these laws not only allow for the citizen to perform a duty that serves the public interest, allows an individual to receive compensation of 15% to 30% of the government’s recovery. The government may join in the case, since the citizen is acting on its behalf.

If you have direct and independent knowledge of the information and have voluntarily provided the information to the government before filing an action under this section, you qualify as an “original source” and can, as a relater, bring a Qui Tam action on the government’s behalf.
